Replaces Front Porch!

Well, it is time to tackle the decrepit front porch.

Upon ripping off the facing, Jim found the supports were all bad, either crumbled cement, or wood sitting directly on the ground.

This is an example of what a postbottom sitting in the dirt since 1914 looks like in 2007.

Note that if you look carefully, you can actually see the white of the truck's hood
THROUGH the cross section of the post bottom.
Supports were pillared with cement.
The porch came down pretty quickly.

Jim had to support the roof, because the columns had about a million coats of paint on them.

Down came the columns. (And the one 4x4 post that had replaced one column for what ever reason).

At $100 apiece, we decided to restore them rather than repurchase,
although we did buy one to replace the 4x4. So we cleaned up 5 columns.

More and more came down, so after a major internal overhaul, the house is now in the middle of a face lift!

THE JOB has slowed Jim down a little, and cars still show up at the front gate to get fixed, but stay tuned for more on the porch!
