Gentle Leader
Headcollar

Although our yard is just an average yard,
slightly bigger than a normal yard in Sherman Oaks,
we have a tiny house.
This gives Ruby lots and lots of room to chase
lizards, sparrows, Cactus wrens and Vultures.

We can take Ruby anywhere there are lots of people,
and she turns into a social butterfly, and endears every person to her.

Then let her see a dog on a leash, or in a yard, and she goes beserk.

I want to get her leash trained,
so I can walk her downtown for events,
not have to drive her past houses
where barking dogs live.

The regular choke collar just about would rip my arm
from the socket several times on every walk,
so I wasn't taking her out.

After reading emails, mailing lists and web sites,
I bought her a Premier Gentle Leader HeadCollar
from pamperedpets.com

What I was hoping for was a magic bullet
that would let me walk her on a
leash without pulling or yanking.

What I got, so far,
has been a magic bullet
that lets me walk her on a leash
without pulling or much yanking.

I think the HeadCollar embarasses her a little.
She is the only dog in town with one
(I remember what it was like to wear corrective shoes as a child).

But it is making a big difference for us,
and Ruby and I can walk like other people.

Even like people who know how to train dogs.
She is far from perfect on the leash,
but we are making a start.

Check back, I will post here or on the blog with her progress.

Oh, and the orange collar was her puppy collar,
I had to bring it out of retirement since
Ruby has somehow left her good collar (and tags)
under the house.

Jim says he will crawl under and get it this weekend.
But, we have a new Lupine "Paws and Crossbones" (BlingBonze)
on order from New Hope Cattle Dogs.
