New Cars For Everyone!

Well, maybe not all new and maybe not for everyone, but we have had a fine time this month working the car dealers.
Lots of words on this page, pictures will be added.

Mom got a brand new 2008 Mercury Milan from Stillwater Ford.

I had gone back to MN for Mother's Day and Dad's 85th birthday.
Out of the blue, on Mother's Day, my Dad says, "Eileen Anne,
while you are home, I want you to take your Mother out to Stillwater Ford and get her a new car.
Her old one is 12 years old, and I'd like to have her in something newer before problems start."

When did you ever see me turn down an opportunity to sell a car?

Thanks to Jims "Friends and Family" plan benefits through Ford,
Mom got a pin # for a huge discount sponsored directly through Ford.

Mom wanted the MKX or Mariner, but Dad doesn't like hatchbacks or wagons.
I was afraid we'd be stuck with another Grand Marquis (a model well on the road to obsolescence).
When she stopped and commented how pretty a newer technology Mercury Milan was, I was thrilled.

While my Mom was running the salesman ragged
(Erik Kramer deserves a gold medal for the way he treated Mom and made her so comfortable,)
I asked his manager (Mike Gaydos also deserves a medal),
to pull the Milan she liked up where it wouldn't fade into the rest of the inventory.

He did, and we all got to talking about the mobility adjustments to put the wheel chair in the trunk of a vehicle
when we noticed Mom and Erik were gone on a test drive.

Imagine my relief when they seemed to be gone longer than ever!
If a customer like my Mom wants to keep driving, that is a good sign!

Meanwhile, I am pushing Dad around in his wheel chair (which he hates, but the lot was way too big for the cane,)
out in the bright sun, and he wanted to go back to the car. So we did and waited for Mom.

Bottom line was Mom loved the Milan!

Dad was worn out and wanted to go home. We all left them alone in Mom's old car together.
I had bright hopes when Mom got out of the car to argue for the Milan through the window, and resisted getting back in the car and calling my brother and I to take them home.

If I ever did anything intelligent in my life, it was to leave Mom alone to sell Dad on the car herself.
She won, and in fact, could have had the MKX if she had wanted.
But the Milan was probably the best, seeing Dad with the vehicles,
it would not have been easy for him to have got into the Mariner or MKX.

She is now a proud owner, and has already called me on her cell phone using the Sync feature.

This is a beautiful thing, as she had already decided her next car would be a Camry.
Now, don't get me wrong, I was involved with the Toyota product for many years and have the utmost respect for it,
however, it is premium priced, and Mom could have never had a $6000 discount
like she did on the Milan through the Ford family plan.

Plus, the new reports on Ford Quality are impressive.
Click here to find out just how impressive.

Look for updates which will include my "new" car - a 2003 Ford Escape XLT.
As much as I love the Lexus and will likely never drive a dream car like the SC400,
I need a dog friendly car that I can haul stuff in with better mileage than the F350 dually.

The Escape has slightly better gas mileage than the Lexus on the highway. Town mileage doesn't matter.
That is why I have the Dude Magnet (my 1988, 35 mpg city Ford Festiva).

I am pleased to announce, I was able to get Ruby a new $8 swimming pool today at Walmart.

Never could have got that in the Lexus! We now have a Lexus for sale!

Stay tuned for more! And picture uploads.
